Why choose St Michael's?

St Michael's recently received a glowing inspection report from the Church of England's Ministry Division. Inspectors described St Michael's as an “impressive institution” which is leading the way and building an international reputation. Out of 13 areas judged by the inspectors, it received nine “gold stars” and four “silver”.

Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan said “Clergy who train in Wales can be confident they are receiving one of the best preparations for their vocation. The college is developing apace and stands comparison with any other theological college in Britain, rightly attracting students from other provinces.”

St Michael's is an attractive place to train for anyone from the Church in Wales and Church of England. Three particular aspects would make St Michael's the ideal choice for some students.

  • Valuing the richness of Anglican traditions

You may not want to be pigeon-holed as belonging to a particular 'party' or perhaps you want to broaden your horizons. St Michael's draws ordinands from all traditions of the Church in Wales and as such we are a very diverse community. Underpinning St Michael's philosophy and greatly valued, this Anglican diversity is complemented by the small number of Methodist students who train at St Michael's and the ecumenical relationship with the South Wales Baptist College whose students study alongside ours in Cardiff University.

  • An interest in Chaplaincy

You may already feel a call to chaplaincy as part of your future ministry. As part of the BTh programme you can take a module in healthcare chaplaincy alongside new hospital chaplains. You can also benefit more widely from the resources of the Centre for Chaplaincy Studies.

  • An interest in the Welsh context

You may be attracted by the Welsh context, either because you have roots in, or some other connection with Wales; or because you would value the opportunity to step a little outside a context you know well to experience something and somewhere a bit different.
