Non-Residential Training
St Michael's non-residential training enables people to maintain their full-time work or other commitments whilst training for the ordained ministry of their church or to become readers. This part-time training route takes two or three years to complete and includes studying for a Cardiff University Diploma or Certificate in Practical Theology. Taught in three regional centres in Wales: St Michael's College, Llandaff (Cardiff), Trinity University College (Carmarthen) and Glyndŵr University (Wrexham), students travel for weekly lectures to their nearest centre. There are some residential weekends and an annual week-long summer-school giving students an opportunity to share their experiences in learning, worship and fellowship.
The programme equips students:
- in the theological, personal and practical skills demanded by today's effective Christian ordained ministry;
- to become reflective practitioners able to adapt their ministry to the demands of a changing society and culture;
and inspires a generation of future leaders with vision, adaptability and creativity.
Readers are trained on a specially adapted version of this non-residential course, so that they are equipped to meet the demands of today's Church and able to work in collaboration with ministry teams of ordained and non-ordained ministers.
