Friends and Alumni

For over a hundred years, St Michael's College has been at the forefront of ministerial training for the Church in Wales. Today the College prepares, teaches and trains a wide range of students including ordinands training for either stipendiary or self-supporting ministry, readers, chaplains and clergy in service. We value our links with former students and those connected to the College in a range of different ways.

St Michael's College is the Church in Wales' central resource for training and theological discussion and in order to fulfil its potential it needs your support today.

In the summer of 2010, the College underwent a major refurbishment adding to other improvements so that the College is now able to offer high quality conference opportunities and compete with other facilities elsewhere in the city, all of which will help ensure the future of ministerial training at the college.

The Friends of St Michael's College supports the College in pursuing its aim of delivering a centre of excellence for ministerial training. In the midst of so much promising activity, it has also been decided to re-launch the Friends of St Michael's.

The aim of the Friends is to offer former students and those with connections to St Michael's, the opportunity to remain in contact with one another and to retain an ongoing interest in the development and activities offered by the college.

In return for a modest annual membership fee of £20, the Friends offers its members a handful of events, a bi-annual newsletter and access to St Michael's College library. It is hoped that through this approach, sufficient funds can be raised on an annual basis, to enable the purchase of smaller items which will add significantly to the improved and modernised "feel" of the College for any and all visitors.

As part of the re-launch, the Friends are also re-instating an annual lecture to be given on the same day as the Annual General Meeting.

The Annual Lecture will be given by a guest speaker of some significance on the subject of their choice and will no doubt provide a thought-provoking start to a day long event at the College which will provide an annual opportunity for all members to see at first hand the ongoing development and spend some time catching up or exchanging experience.

The re-launch took place through February and March 2011 and if you are a former student or staff member at St Michael's and have not been contacted by us please get in touch. The Committee has representatives throughout the Province and we would love to hear from, update and involve you in the ongoing development of both the Friends and St Michael's.
