Principal's Welcome
Welcome to St Michael's College website. Situated in tranquil Llandaff, yet just a few minutes from Cardiff's vibrant city centre, St Michael's College blends a warm, supportive and diverse community with a unique reflective atmosphere equipping our students to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
Our recent inspection report recognised us as an "impressive institution" which is leading the way and building an international reputation. This is a tribute to the hard work and innovative developments which are making St Michael's the first choice college for potential ministers both Anglican and Methodist, Church in Wales and Church of England.
Students who are most attracted to St Michael's are those
- who want to train in a College which makes variety a virtue,
- who want a firm grounding in practical theology through high quality teaching,
- who expect to be stretched in every way,
- who put communication skills high on their list of expected outcomes, and
- who do not want to be pigeon-holed as belonging to a particular 'party' and want to broaden their horizons.
We enjoy a unique relationship with Cardiff University, a centre of excellence in theology which has a nationally recognised centre for research, and which includes practical theology among its specialities. Everyone who trains here receives a University qualification, and one which can be augmented through further accredited work, during the years of ministry through any university institution.
We are able to provide an exceptionally wide range of courses for all levels and at all stages of ministry. The Centre for Chaplaincy Studies, catering for chaplains in prisons, hospitals, schools and the military, has been highly praised as both innovative and focussed on the ministerial task in this third millennium. The expanding programme of in-service training, ministry development and our extensive research platform contribute to a rich variety of life at St Michael's.
Explore this website - we hope it whets your appetite to find out more. You are welcome to come and look at the College, to meet and experience the people and the place, and for us to explore your vocation with you.
As we say in Welsh, Croeso, welcome.
Peter Sedgwick,
Principal and Warden.
